When Covid lockdown produced idle hands, I finally got round to fulfilling my father's wish to have his WWII memoir manuscript published - 'Hunter to Hunted, Surviving Hitler's Wolf Packs'. Assisting me with editing and proofreading through fresh eyes, my sons recalled a single anecdote I'd told from my own career, and encouraged me to commit that to paper. This, of course, led to the unlocking of many other largely forgotten career memories, as names, faces and locations flickered back into life from the dusty recesses of what are (allegedly) called the hippocampus and amygdala (yes, I thought Star Wars as well) before landing like a re-mastered film in the prefrontal cortex (apparently). Thereafter, it was simple motor skills that relentlessly battered out key strokes to capture those recalled first-hand accounts of operational policing in 1970s UK and 1980s Hong Kong before continuing into new millenium, post-retirement training and consultancy missions accross the globe. 'Locate International' a Missing Person charity provides new purpose, but as it's still young it takes up only the last couple of pages as a shameless plug for generous donations and willing volunteers to become real cold case investigators.
